Computer Threats

Computer Threats

If your computer has a possible threat, bring in your PC and we will do our best to remove it. If we are successful it will cost £30. But if we are not successful we will suggest a reload of the operating system as it will remove everything from your hard drive. This way the threat is completely gone. Do not worry as we will be able to back up your data before we complete this work.  However this data will need to be scanned prior to opening to ensure that you do not reinfect your machine

Virus Protection

Gibson Computers recommends Kaspersky Internet Security.  We find this extremely reliable and user friendly.  However, we do advise customers to be very cautious about downloading and opening  emails as this is often the way viruses attack machines.  Kaspersky will ask if you wish to open/download, if you agree and the file has a virus then you have let it through. Kaspersky will try and delete/quarantine it.   Always keep your virus software up to date so that you are fully protected.

We advise our customers to be very careful when receiving telephone cold calls.  There have been instances of callers claiming to be Microsoft and asking for money to clear your machine of harmful files that will render it impossible to use.  Indeed, one of our directors had one such call at home and when challenged, the caller hung up.   Please do not let them frighten you into spending money with them as they will infect your machine once they have told you what to download and taken your money.

If you look on the internet you will see several sites where people have experienced the same thing.  It will then cost you more money to sort out your machine and get it up and running again.
